Prenox attends Bidvest World Chefs Tour

To support the 2011 Bidvest World Chefs Tour against hunger, Prenox sponsored a table at the gala dinner held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Tuesday 30th August 2011.

Herman Van Tonder and Ingrid Johnson, along with friends, family and suppliers, enjoyed a remarkable evening of “unparalleled intrigue, mystery, glamour and spectacle”. The meals were scrumptious, and included Creole Turkey Ballantine, Loch Duarte Salmon ‘Ceviche’ with Alaskan Crab and Pea Salad and Karoo Lamb with an Open Vegetable Swiss Roll accompanied by Braised Namibian Lamb Neck Lasagna. Each meal represented culinary delights from the many countries represented on the tour.

Entertainment included performances by PJ Powers, singing the 1993 hit song from the last World Chefs Tour Against Hunger “Sing Children Sing”.

Inspired by movie musicals the likes of Burlesque, Chicago and Nine, the evening’s entertainment at the “Bidvest Lounge” also included a live band; appearances by top local dancing talent, spectacular performances by specialist artists from Cirque du Soleil productions worldwide; and two of the most sensational artists from the hit American television series ‘Dancing with the Stars’.  MC for the evening was Johannesburg’s much-loved Jeremy Mansfield, with special appearances by the “Madam” of South African theatre, Jude Page.

From 21 to 30 August this year, 250 chefs from 44 countries toured South Africa to raise funds and awareness for the plight of the hungry as part of the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger. 30% of all South Africans go hungry every day, and more than half do not have enough money to buy food for themselves or their families several times a year.

The fundraising goal for this year was R 5 million but at the end of the gala dinner, it was revealed that R 8 million had in fact been raised. This amount will feed over 400 children every day for the next five years.
